Rabia Basri MirzaBritish Muslims for Secular Democracy
Rabia Mirza is the Director of Media, Engagement and Lobbying for British Muslims for Secular Democracy. She has previously worked with the NUS Scotland’s Black Women’s Sub Committee, Nisa-Nashim, the Jewish Muslim Women’s Network and currently works part time for Black Training and Enterprise Group scrutinising the disproportionality of Black and Muslim men within the criminal justice system. Rabia has a strong background in grassroots activism, youth work and social justice.
Muslims have a rich and complicated history with secularism. So why is it that many young Muslims today feel alienated from it? This session will explore the pro’s and con’s of the secular movement and why young Muslims need to reclaim secularism now more than ever.
