Jasvir is the founding Chair of City Sikhs, which provides a voice for progressive Sikhs and has over 7,000 members in the UK.He chairs the British Sikh Report which annually produces robust quantitative data about the community. He is Co-Chair of the Faiths Forum for London, working with the nine main faith communities to encourage and promote interfaith social projects. He is the youngest Sikh to currently hold an OBE and is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day.

 

When Guru Nanak visited Mecca

2019 marks the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh faith. He travelled extensively throughout Asia, and in the 1510s, he visited Mecca accompanied by his Muslim companion Mardana. Why did he travel to Mecca and how did he come to be known as Nanak Shah Faqir?
